CONSTANTIVS II

Reigned: 337-361 A.D.

Cyzicus

CYZICVS (Turkey - 40°25'N, 27°54'E), in a district originally known as Mysia, was established by the Milesians in 675 BC on the southern coast of the Sea of Marmara at the point where the Arctonnesus peninsula is narrowest as it joins the mainland of Asia Minor. The city had two fine harbors, one in the east and one in the west which were joined by a canal. Its electrum staters, usually displaying a tunny fish, were among the dominant ancient gold coins until the time of Alexander the Great. It passed to Roman control in 133 BC. An imperial mint opened there about 260, and it operated until about 475 .(From MONETA, from www.numus.com)
